Organic hues and green living will be a huge focus

Green living and biophilic design continue to trend this year. Many homeowners and designers are touting the benefits of inviting nature into the home. And when it comes to the color palette, nothing says organic and natural like the color green.

Thomas Borcherding, lead kitchen designer and owner of a firm called Homestar Design Remodel, says, “During covid and the years following, we saw a huge influx of white subway tile and grey shaker cabinetry. For this reason, and based on what I’m seeing in the field, clients will be demanding more wood-tones and greens in their kitchens.”

Natural wood cabinets, green painted walls, and luxe natural elements like bamboo accents will be a highlight of 2024 kitchen design.

Danielle Nash, Interior Designer/Project Manager at Freemodel, says that “people will be going green this year and not just when it comes to sustainability. The color green will have a bold emergence this year as people begin to experiment with a wider range of color in their homes.”

Additionally, Nash explains why green will be such a prominent color in kitchen design. She says, “While there’s many hues of green and opportunities to go bold, it also follows the natural and organic design trends that we will see in other areas this year. We will see a rise in a wide variety of greens used in kitchens from everything to cabinets, paint colors, appliances, and more.”

Dark, rich hues have entered the kitchen

Dark and rich hues will also be something to look out for in this year’s kitchen design. 2024 kitchen color palettes will feature moody colors and rich jewel tones.

Alexander Adducci, Senior Designer and Sales at 210 Design House, says, “Prepare to embrace a bold palette: deep blues, greens, and grays redefine spaces with depth and richness. Light tones create freshness and expansiveness, while dark hues offer a cozy embrace.”

Jewel tones have been super trendy in recent color palettes. They appear luxe, cozy, and intimate. Homeowners may be inclined to experiment with deep evergreens, night sky blues, or aubergine purples that feel elegant and full of depth.

Choosing to do something unexpected

Another kitchen color palette trend designers say we can expect this year is homeowners choosing something unexpected.

Danielle Nash at Freemodel says, “For quite some time now, people have played it safe with neutral interiors. Many will step out of their comfort zone this year.”

Thomas Borcherding at Homestar Design Remodel says, “I believe that homeowners/tenants are desperate for color in their kitchens.” This need to overhaul outdated palette trends has encouraged homeowners to be daring in their designs.

To get an idea of what to expect, Barry Gant, Founder & CEO at 7 Day Kitchens, says, “Think less about playing it safe and more about making a statement. We’re talking cabinets in rich blues or backsplashes in sunny yellows. It’s time to give the kitchen some personality.”

Other unexpected color ideas that are trending include:

  • Modern designs featuring primary colors: red, blue, and yellow
  • Pastel blue or yellow cottage kitchens
  • Orange kitchens with a unique patterned tile backsplash
  • Deep green or blue cabinets with wallpaper on the walls

Expect the unexpected this year as homeowners and designers play around with quirky color palettes that we haven’t seen in a while. Color will be a huge factor in 2024 kitchen designs, and its utilization will be eccentric, bold, and expressive.

Monochromatic palettes are back

Floss Kelly at TileCloud says another trend we can expect this year is “color drenching.” Kelly says, “This trend, gaining popularity for its bold and immersive experience, will see kitchens bathed in a single color for a cohesive environment. It’s a trend that’s as much about feeling as it is about aesthetics.”

Monochromatic palettes in rich greens, deep blues, warm yellows, or even moody purples may be something we can expect this year. Painted ceilings that tie in the overall design or painted cabinets that adhere to the monochromatic palette will be must-haves.

2024 kitchen color palettes will be a bold experience. Homeowners and designers crave something unique to tell a story with their designs. According to the experts, we can expect to see plenty of bright and vivid colors added to our palettes that offer something eclectic and personal to our homes.
