Add doodles to your doors and windows

@marley.makes.things on TikTok shared a unique Christmas decor addition that homeowners can add to their front doors. The hack: doodles on your doors and windows. @marley.makes.things says you “just need a paint marker. I like Posca. And a window and that’s it!”

Using her storm door, this TikToker begins cleaning the glass with Windex to prep the surface for painting. Then, she uses the paint marker to doodle festive drawings on the inside of the door so that the designs can be viewed through the glass from the outside. “The good thing about this design is it’s just doodles,” she says as she offers viewers an example of a design they can create this Christmas season. “It’s a really approachable design, even if you’re not an artist.”

She also notes that even if you mess up during your doodling process, you can use Windex or rubbing alcohol on a cloth and easily wipe away your mistakes.

Try these design ideas for a festive look

There are plenty of unique designs that homeowners can use for this project. While @marley.makes.things shows a simple winter plant border in her first video, there are several doodles you can add for a festive touch.

Christmas lights around the door

For @marley.makes.things’ second idea, she shows homeowners how they can easily draw Christmas lights around the door, creating a festive frame. Simply draw a long squiggly line with a few loops around the window’s edge. Then, draw and color in the light bulbs.

A little snow village on the windows

An alternate idea that we think could look absolutely adorable on the windows is a little snow village. Using a white paint marker, you can add “snow” on the bottom of the glass. Then, draw in some snowmen or use different colors to create little houses, reindeer, and evergreen trees.

Christmas trees are a classic

You can also always opt for a classic Christmas tree design. Go big and adorn your entire storm door with a Christmas tree, or keep it sweet and simple with a couple of small trees along the windows.

How to clean off your window mural designs

Cleaning off the window mural designs is easy. @marley.makes.things shared a video showing how she removes her paint marker designs.

First, spray your window down with window cleaner, like Windex. Then, while the surface is still wet, use either a plastic card or a razor blade to scrape off your design. @marley.makes.things says you can skip the scraping and go in with a cloth or old rag, but it will require more elbow grease. “To finish everything off,” she says, “I like to clean the window maybe two or three more times just to get rid of any streaks or haze that’s left behind.”

Instead of using window or jelly stickers, which can be challenging to clean off or, often, get pulled off by pets and small children, try using paint markers and creating your own Christmas decorations just as @marley.makes.things has done.
