We’ve all been home more than usual lately, and the longer we stare at each room of our home, the more we realize just how much we’re yearning for a change. If you’ve wanted to revamp your bathroom, but don’t want to break the bank to get a fresh new look, never fear. We’ve come up with some budget bathroom upgrades that won’t break your bank account and practical advice that will help you get the job done in record time. Practically anyone can accomplish these bathroom upgrades and affordable shower ideas (yes, even you). What are you waiting for? Your next weekend project awaits!
Paint or stain the floor
While painting your bathroom floor might sound a bit strange, it’s actually become something of a trend. This upgrade works best if your bathroom floor is made of wood. Ensure that you purchase wood paint or stain that’s designed specifically for floors – it won’t be as slippery, and it’ll last longer too. Our favorite look is a light wood stain in a dark bathroom, or a deep blue or black against an all-white tile wall.
Use tile as an accent
Many people like the idea of using tile in their bathrooms. However, tile is expensive, and laying it right often requires a true artisan. That means hiring a professional contractor, which is time, money, and stress no one wants.
Instead of making it a bathroom feature, use your tile as accent pieces. Lining a mirror with a simple tile setting, or running a strip of reflective tile around the bathroom can add something special to the bathroom and elevate the entire atmosphere. The one place we don’t recommend skimping on tile is the shower…for obvious reasons.
Update fixtures
Is your bathroom sink’s faucet getting old? Does it stick when you try to turn it on? Even when you wash it, does it seem to perpetually look like it has minerals accumulating on it? Time to toss it already!
However, when you update fixtures in your bathroom, don’t just think about your faucets. Your bathroom can take on a completely new feeling by upgrading and updating a whole slew of things. For example, you can purchase towel racks, lighting fixtures, cabinet handles, door handles, showerheads, and more.
While there are pretty expensive fixtures, you can always find look-alikes that are likely to fit your budget. Plus, even if they’re lookalikes, they’re still newer and better looking than what you probably have right now. Another bonus? Your shower heads and faucets can help you conserve water and save money at the same time. In fact, it’s quite possible that you can find water-saving faucets and shower heads that aren’t any more expensive than traditional fixtures.
Try a new coat of paint
You’d be surprised what a new color of paint can do for a room. If you have a small wall in your bathroom that you can easily strip and re-paint, why not go for it? An accent wall never goes out of style, and the right color can instantly refresh your space in a snap. For best results, we recommend finding a paint that’s designed for wear and tear, and don’t forget the primer!
If you’re not in the mood for a large painting project, inspect your bathroom walls for any scuffs, chips, or missing paint, and see what you can do about patching them. While our eyes tend to skip over flaws we’ve seen over and over, they’ll certainly notice the difference once you’ve freshened up the paint, and just that alone can make a big difference in your bathroom’s overall appearance and feel.
Freshen grout and caulk
An area that many people overlook is the bathroom’s grout and caulk. When they get covered in mold and mildew, it just doesn’t look nice. However, even if you’re doing a DIY bathroom remodel on a budget, you can clean the grout, scrape out and remove the old caulk, and then put new lines of caulk in. It’ll freshen everything up, and takes hardly any time at all.
Tackling a bathroom remodel doesn’t have to cost you big bucks, and can be as simple as swapping out your faucet or wall paint. If you’ve been thinking about redoing your bathroom, painting your bathroom floor, using tile as an accent, updating your fixtures, applying a fresh coat of paint, and freshening up the caulk and grout are bathroom remodels you can tackle in under a week. What’s better than that? It doesn’t take a lot to spruce things up and make your bathroom feel brand new!
